COLONIAL WARS
A Scenario Building Contest entry by Sable.

This scenario deals with the colonization of Africa by the Europeans.
While historically accurate, it should not be regarded as a 100%
entirely historically accurate scenario, as there are some minor
inaccuracies that I had to introduce to focus on what I wanted to
reflect and to improve playability.

The Civs --

All 7 civs are playable, but the recommended are the Ethiopians
(tougher) and the Italians (easier). This is to meet the contest
specifications. I chose the other civs in accordance with Cam Hills'
map. British, French, and Portuguese were obvious choices. To my
surprise the Belgians do not show in Cam's map and the Spanish seemed
to be more spread than the Germans. Thus I merged the Germans with the
Boers and included the Spanish. I wish I would have had another slot
for the Moslems of North Africa. I merged these with the native black
tribes as the barbarian civ.

To differentiate my scenario from the others I would like this to be
seen as "African affairs above the Tropic of Cancer". That justifies
the merging of Germans and Boers (he, he, this is not a Boer War thing!).

Victory Conditions --

The scenario scores just like a regular Civ2 game. The only way to
finish it before time runs up (100 turns) is to conquer the whole
world. Unless you are playing with the English or France I see this
difficult. Thus each tribe has it own victory objectives, as follows:

Ethiopians: To kick the Italians out of Eritrea (but if you are still
alive after 200 turns, consider yourself a winner!).

Italians: to destroy the Ethiopians. Everything else is secondary.

British: global domination.

French: global domination.

Portuguese: to grab as much land as you can at the expense of the
natives.

Boers & Germans: to contain British expansion in South Africa

Spanish: To contain French expansion in North Africa

The tech tree --

It's the same as in normal Civ2 games, with minor adjustements to allow
the Europeans to have their own units. Tech paradigm is 25/10.

Wonders --

There are only 7 wonders in the scenario, one per civilization:

Ethiopians: Sun Tzu's
Italians: Michelangelo's Chapel
British: Pyramids
French: King Richard's Crusade
Portuguese: Magellan
Spanish: JS Bach's Cathedral
Boers & Germans: Adam Smith's

(These wonders have been renamed to fit the context)

Units--

Most of the artwork was borrowed from different scenarios, as indicated
under "Credits". There is only a new unit icon, the Ethiopian fanatic!

Special note --

THIS IS IMPORTANT: Although pollution is set as "not a factor", the
truth is that this scenario contains a random event that might trigger
global warming if left uncontrolled!!! Of course that would ruin the
scenario. To prevent this fron happening:
a) Clean polluted squares, the faster the better!
b) if playing with any European civ, BUILD POWER PLANTS!!! They are
actually solar plants in disguise. They are cheap, cost no upkeep,
increase shield production by 50% and most importantly, help reduce
the risk of global warming. Remember that power plants are available
only in cities with factories.
